Christine Mclean - Scottish Artist
|
Christine was born in Edinburgh and educated in the city. A great deal of her time during her childhood was spent in the Highlands and Morayshire areas of Scotland. Childhood memories of this time, in the more remote places of Scotland, are never far away and that love of wild places can now been seen in the paintings she creates. Although not formally trained as an artist she spent much of her spare time in her later years at school in the art classroom, learning from and assisting her principle art teacher, Fred Mayo in various activities including screen printing, textile design and jewellery making with the intention of taking up a place at Edinburgh’s College of Art. Circumstances prevented this chosen path and she spent the next 25 years working in the financial sector. In 2003 Christine moved out of the city into the countryside she loves and this has rekindled her passion for painting. "My love of nature comes from my father who used to tell me the name of every mountain and loch, animal and bird that we came across on our travels to and from family in the north." "My inspiration comes from the magnificent mountain ranges of our highlands, the wild and rugged coastlines, the dramatic seas and lochs. I have recently spent time with Don McNeill and Jean Bell, two internationally renowned artists based on the shores of Loch Fyne, developing my technique. " "I work predominantly in acrylics and love using vibrant colour to define the motion of the sea and sky but I also like to experiment with different techniques creating some fine detailed studies" Christine now finds more time to paint from her studio at home and has recently spent time with Don McNeill and Jean Bell, two internationally renowned artists developing her technique. She now lives near Heriot, overlooking the Gala Water, with her partner and two spaniels. |
